Are you providing a free email course to your visitors?

A great way to disseminate content online is via an email course. Better still is the WAY you can distribute the
information.

Email courses allow you to split up your information into easily readable chunks. Each email needs to be only about 6 to 10 paragraphs long.

For example, lets assume your content is "7 Tips for Getting Published Online". With an email course, you can provide a 7 part series with a different tip in each part. This email
course could go out to your subscribers every other day so they receive it over a period of 2 weeks.

You want to make sure your email course is free so do not give away everything you have to offer. Just provide some important information which will lead potential buyers to look at what else you have to offer. You want to give them a taste of what they can get.

Then what you want to do is offer your products or services for sale in each email. If you are sending 7 emails as part of your email course then you get 7 opportunities to advertise what you have to offer.

This could be your own product or a product you resell as an affiliate in an affiliate program. Both work equally as well.

When people read your valuable information in your email course
they are MUCH MORE LIKELY to buy than if they just visited your web site. I know this is a fact because it has been my personal experience.

Have you noticed how popular free email courses have become lately?

Well, now you know why. They really work and they really produce excellent results. I can guarantee your conversion ratios will increase.

So if you are NOT offering a free email course you are missing out on additional opportunities to make sales.

You can set up your own free email course with one of the free autoresponder services at sendfree.com or getresponse.com

If you are anything like me, then you've come to depend on email. In fact, I
must read my email several times a day or I feel very uncomfortable. This
applies to both my email from work (which I check a few times after I get
home and on weekends) and my personal email (which I might check once or
twice from the office.

Why is it important? Well, email is communication, and I love to
communicate. I write emails at home to discuss my articles and web site, to
talk to family and friends, and to order products or get support. At work I
use it constantly to deliver tasks to the people who work on my team, answer
questions from the boss, and keep in contact with my vendors, users and
peers.

One of the problems that I face when attempting to get to my email in either
location is how to access the POP server (a POP server is the place where
your messages are stored until you read them in your email client).

What you need to do is use one of the web based email services which allow
you to read your email messages from any POP server. See "Free stuff
Headquarters - Email" for a list of services which are available. In
addition, your own ISP or web host may provide this functionality for you.

http://www.internet-tips.net/Freestuff/Freeemail.htm

It's easy to set this up once you've settled on a service. They will need
you to enter your email address, account name, password and POP server name.
Before you enter this data, you may want to be sure your service is secure
while you are filling out the form. Basically, before you press the SUBMIT
button, see if the URL begins with "https" or the little lock is shown in a
locked position. If so, you are fine. If not, you may be transmitting your
password in the clear, which means it could be intercepted by an evildoer.

Now that you've got a service you can pick up your email. Be sure to check
the box which says "leave email on server" or "do not delete messages" or
something like that, unless you are absolutely sure you want to delete them.
What this does is leave the messages on your POP server until you read them
with your normal email client.

Okay, now what? Well, when you travel you can find a place to read your
email. Let's say you are at a convention. You could find a kiosk which
allows for internet access and viola, you can read your email. Sometimes the
salespeople will let you use one of their screens if they think you might be
or might become a customer. Airports, libraries and other places also
commonly have computer and internet access for a fee.

Some cautions are in order here. By their very nature these kinds of public
systems are not secure. Just be sure you use your common sense and don't do
anything you would not want to broadcast to the entire planet. Also, be sure
the email service that you choose stores the password for you - never enter
your email account password on a public system. Thus, you should enter your
password once - when you set up the email account.

It's also a good idea to change your POP email account password more often,
most especially after you return from your traveling.

Personally, I prefer to carry a laptop or handheld device (such as a palm
pilot or Jornada) with me when I travel. This way I can pick up my email
from the hotel room or anywhere I can find an ethernet jack, without
worrying about the inherent security issues of using a public system.

In the current Internet market, many people are confused as to how they can use email to build their online businesses, while consumers are fighting off the evils of spam email. As a result, we are tackling this most important issue today.

The ideal way to use email to develop your business is by creating a double opt-in list on either YahooGroups, Topica.com, SmartGroups.com or FreeLists.org.

I have dozens of these lists in existence myself. Basically each opt-in list provides a specific talking point or advertising point that people are interested in. (Examples: I have a dozen lists for free-reprint articles, 2 lists for ezine ad swaps, 2 small lists talking about online business, one for computer help. I also have a couple for advertising ezines to the public. I have tried safe-lists but the hosting companies keep deleting those.)

Additionally, I have at times past had up to 5 ezines, but right now only one. Each of the five ezines were on various topics --- including computer software, online marketing and general entertainment --- and all were double opt-in.

Each of the hosting companies allow you to place an ad in each mailing delivered to your group. With YahooGroups, you can only place one ad at the bottom of the email. With Topica, you can place your ads top and bottom. I cannot tell you much about FreeLists.org since I just learned about them this past weekend.

The trick to any opt-in list is providing something based on a niche interest. Provided your list delivers something of value to the subscribers, the people will sign up to receive them.

With the ezine, you would try to provide some type of valuable information of interest to your target market. By consistently providing valuable information to your readers, you will be building the relationships with people who will likely buy from you in the future.

Let me say one thing here. Do not let an ezine distract you from your real purpose. Any ezine you develop is a tool to help you grow your business. Don't fall into the common trap of starting an ezine to promote your business and then thinking later that your ezine is your business.

There are in fact several large mailing companies out there with clean, double opt-in mailing lists for ads, but I must emphasize care when selecting one of these companies. If the mailing company cannot promise that their list is double opt-in, leave them be. Be sure to also get references and check those references. There are a lot of scammers out there sending spam to millions of harvested addresses and then trying to convince you that their mailings are safe. Buyer beware.

Double opt-in means that I as a subscriber request the mailing then I receive a verification email from the mailing list telling me that I must follow certain steps to verify my intentions to subscribe. Double opt-in is literally a method of getting someone to agree twice to receive future email.

Single opt-in lists can be and are often abused by their owners or the public-at-large. So avoid single opt-in lists at all costs. Even the appearance of Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE/Spam) can be deadly for your business.

Ezine advertising is a great method of building business, but this too is very risky depending on your type of business. Knowing where to place your ads is always the greatest challenge. Some ezines are great and some are dogs. Some are expensive and some are inexpensive. Determining the strength of your ad copy is tantamount to your success before spending a single dime on advertising in ezines.

There are ezines offering free ads, but they are not worth much to your advertising bottom line. Most of these ezines don't have a solid buyers base to them at all. Rather, they are mostly comprised of sellers who were searching for the freebie advertisements. Just the same, you can use these to test your ads before taking your money to the paid ezines. This is just one of hundreds of ways to test your ads before purchasing expensive ad space.

Other ways to test your ads is to place them in classified ad websites, in safe-lists, in general advertising or niche mailing lists. You could run them in low-cost ezines. You can also set them up as independent doorway pages which are submitted to search engines.

There are also FFA pages that can be used for testing, but I generally recommend against FFA pages because the return is so very, vary low by the nature of how FFA pages are operated and used. In my mind, FFA pages simply are not worth the time or money that you invest in them.

Sites like http://SubmitAds.net permit you to place your ads in their directory and then send your message to people who will place their advertisements through your replicated SubmitAds website. If you were adventurous, SubmitAds actually sports a nice pay program to enable you to send email to everyone in their network at the intervals you decide. You may even earn a few additional dollars by participating in their program.

No matter what approach you take to place and test your advertising and ad copy, you should be running some type of tracking to determine the effectiveness of your advertising in circulation. Without some method of tracking being employed, your test results are based only upon guess work. In the real world of business, guess work just does not cut it. You need to know precisely what is working for you and what is not working for you.

There is no better way to determine what works and what does not than to employ some type of ad tracking software. There are a few companies employing such services, each with their own advantages and disadvantages, and each with very different pricing structures.

Shop around and see which ad tracking software is best for you and then use it to make a realistic determination as to what is working and what is not. Test your ads and your advertising mediums and track the results produced by each. And when the day is done, move forward with what has proven successful and then discard the rest.

By providing their users the ability to measure and track results connected to a specific ad or advertising media, PathTrax is helping small businesses expand the profits in their bottom line. Part 1 of this article (www.isitebuild.com/organizedemail) discussed how to efficiently organize your email so you can spend more time on building a profitable business.

One of the most annoying aspects of dealing with incoming email is spam mail (unsolicited email). It fills up your email box, takes up your precious time, and seems to only get worse. You may even delete your personal or business email that was mistaken for spam mail.

This could result in lost business to you.

In Part 2 of this article you will discover solutions to help you stop spam mail. This allows you to spend more time building a profitable business.

Apart from just hitting the delete button each day here are some timesaving solutions:

1. Use the filters or the message rules of your email client.

a) In outlook express (since it is the most popular email client) go to tools - message rules - mail - mail rules - new

b) Under "select conditions for your rule", check "where the subject line contains specific words".

c) Under "select the actions for your rule" check "delete it".

d) Under "rule description" click on "contains specific words" - enter words or phrases that you never wish to receive again.

e) Under "name of rule" provide an appropriate name for the rule ie JUNK.

f) Click OK

Creating this JUNK rule will automatically delete emails containing the specific words or phrases you entered.

There are many other rules you can apply (ie move certain messages to specific folders automatically), depending on what you need.

Here are a couple of web sites that list phrases and keywords frequently used in spam mail:

http://www.sv-cs.com/spam.html http://www.wilsonweb.com/wmt8/spamfilter_phrases.htm

2. Use anti-spam software.

You can install software either on your computer (client side) or on your web host (server side).

a) Client Side - software that resides on your computer.

Mailwasher (www.mailwasher.net) - provides an easy way to check and manage your emails before you download them.

There are free and paid versions of mailwasher.

Spamkiller (http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/msk/default.asp)

Features:

*Block emails using both lists and preset filters *Update internal filters automatically *Filter MSN/Hotmail, POP3 and MAPI email *Create custom filters
*Quarantine spam mail outside of your inbox *Import "friends" automatically into your safe list *Monitor and filter multiple email accounts *Fight back against spammers

Paid version only.

b) Server Side - software that resides on your server. This means the spam mail will be deleted before it makes it to your inbox.

Ask your web host what spam mail software they carry and how to implement it. My web host uses spamassassin.

Spamassassin (www.spamassassin.org) this is a mail filter widely used by ISPs to identify spam mail before it reaches your inbox. Check with your web host if it is already installed.

The spam-identification tactics used include:

header analysis - identifies spammers using tricks to mask their identities in the email header.

text analysis - identifies characteristic styles used by spammers in the body of the email.

3) Get a free SpamCheck Report

Here is a FREE test you can do to make sure your newsletter gets through to your subscribers and is not stopped by spam software. Just send your newsletter to spamcheck-webselling83@sitesell.net and you'll get back a full SpamCheck Report in seconds.

Make sure TEST starts the subject line or it will be ignored.

Now your readers can stay out of the "Junk Mail Folder."

Use these techniques and tools to remove spam mail before it gets to you. You will gain more time and be able to concentrate more effectively on your business.

Spam has been such a problem that email filters are
now widespread on the Net. These filters are a necessary
response to the menace of spam. However, will the
excuse of spam be used by companies such as Hotmail
to charge for email?

Disturbing news that Hotmail (owned by Microsoft) is
blocking perfectly legitimate emails because they have
been caught by their anti-spam filters is increasing these
fears.

Allan Gardyne of Associateprograms.com has been
commenting recently about the difficulties SiteSell
(owner of the website building package SiteBuildIt)
has had with Hotmail.

http://associateprograms.com/discus/viewtopic.php?t=2847

When SiteSell complained to Hotmail they did not get a
helpful response. Microsoft suggested that they use the
services of a company called Bonded Sender which would
ensure that SiteSell's legitimate non-spam emails would
reach their customers. It just happens that one of the owners
of Bonded Sender is a former employee of Microsoft!

Many other companies have had similar problems with
Hotmail. Bill Gates is on record as wishing to charge for
email as a method of preventing spam. Unfortunately,
when the big companies on the Net gang up like this, a sort
of inevitability about charging for email creeps in. Nearly
60% of email is handled by Hotmail, AOL, and Yahoo
combined. These three companies could have the power
to force customers to pay for their email.

However, customers still have bargaining power.
They may decide to stop using Hotmail and opt for a genuine
free service. The founding fathers of the Internet had a public
service attitude to the free dissemination of information.
If the big companies charge for email, this egalitarian ideal
will be lost.

The most appealing aspect of the Internet for many people
was precisely this level-playing field that it created. The
hobbyist in any part of the world could communicate and
pass information (through email!) to other enthusiasts.
The small entrepreneur could set up a website and make
money without reference to the multinationals.
However, this freedom will be lost if customers are not
vigilant. The big companies like Microsoft are businesses
concerned with profit. The freedom of access that the
Internet gives to the small person in any part of the world
is not a priority of the multinationals.

Email is no doubt one of the most effective form of communication. Virtually anyone with Internet Access must have at least an email account. Email messages can be sent to anywhere in the world, to any email address, and cost almost next to nothing except for your Internet access fee.

This form of communication certainly gives small / home business owners a highly advantageous point to compete with larger corporation on the net for a piece of their well deserved share of the market.

In case you haven't notice already, it's getting harder than ever to get your email messages or newsletters delivered correctly to your subscribers now. With all those fancy spam-killer and anti-spam filter softwares, as a legitimate and responsible webmaster / publisher we are seriously affected in the process and thus have to do double work just to get our newsletters delivered properly. Why?

Recipients with SPAM filter software installed in their email accounts will filter out any messages that it *think* may be SPAM. The filter software will scan through your messages and search for the most obvious trigger (SPAM) words like: money, sex, guarantee, unsubscribe, etc...I'm sure you get the idea.

This is actually very outrageous as most of the words filtered our are actually important words that are indispensable to writing an effective email messages / newsletter. If your email messages contained any trigger words, the spam filter software will either put your email messages into the bulk folder or bounce back entirely. Seriously, who will even bother to open the bulk folder and read through each messages?

Fortunately, there's a workable solution to this problem...let's take a look at the following examples.

Example 1: FREE is one of the trigger words you should avoid using.

Get your FREE report on how to avoid spam filters.

Example 2: FR*EE however is not same as FREE, is it?

Get your FR*EE report on how to avoid spam filters.

That's right, you can disguise those important triggers words just by inserting a simple keyboard symbol but be sure that you do not overdo it and make it too cryptic that your readers can't understand.

Note: This is not a 100 percent solution that your email will not be filtered out but it's sure better than using the word FREE directly only to have your email sent to the bulk folder and deleted later. That's why it's always better to test your email messages / newsletter thoroughly before sending them to your subscribers. Luckily I've recently came across a website that will check your email message content for FREE and tells you how it ranks in Spam Assassin.

The site name is Lyris' Content Checker - http://www.lyris.com/contentchecker/

All you have to do is copy your email messages and paste it into the huge textbox. They will check your email messages and send you an email report within minutes.

You can learn a lot more about following up on your subscribers with Autoresponder Magic. http://www.ebookok.com/products/autoresponder.html

If you're serious about writing moneymaking emails, you should try Million Dollar Emails http://www.ebookok.com/products/million_emails.html

And E-Mail Marketing Strategies Revealed - http://www.ebookok.com/products/email_strategies.html

That's all for this article, good luck at getting a lower score in Spam Assassin by the way! :-)
